2025 Academic Symposium on Optical Wireless Communications Successfully Held in Nanjing

From November 7 to 9, 2025, the 2025 Academic Symposium on Optical Wireless Communications was successfully hosted at the Wireless Valley, Jiangning District, Nanjing.Co-organized by Southeast University and Purple Mountain Laboratories, the symposium received strong support from multiple institutions: the State Key Laboratory of Mobile Communications, Frontiers Science Center for Mobile Information Communication and Security under the Ministry of Education, Communications Committee of China Institute of Electronics, Internet of Things Technical Committee of China Institute of Communications, Jiangsu Information Technology Application Society, IEEE ComSoc Nanjing Chapter, and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.The event brought together more than one hundred experts, scholars, industry representatives, faculty and students. Centered on cutting-edge technologies of optical wireless communications, participants discussed the latest research advances and industrialization applications covering optical wireless communication, optical wireless sensing, integrated communication-sensing devices, multi-spectrum convergence, and integrated optical communication and sensing.


At the opening ceremony, Academician You Xiaohu, Honorary Chair of the symposium, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers. He extended a warm welcome to experts and scholars from across the country, fully recognized the rapid progress achieved in optical wireless communication and sensing in recent years, called for further promotion of the industrial translation of relevant research outcomes, and wished the symposium a complete success with fruitful exchanges.


The keynote session was presided over by Professor Zhang Zaichen, Symposium Chair from Southeast University. Four professors delivered insightful presentations on frontier research topics:

  • Professor Wang Jiangzhou (Southeast University): Integrated Communication, Sensing, Computing and Intelligence Fusion Technologies for 6G

  • Professor Xu Zhengyuan (University of Science and Technology of China): Marine Optical Wireless Communications and Networking Technologies

  • Professor Julian Cheng (Cheng Zhishen, Great Bay University): Solar-Blind Ultraviolet Non-Line-of-Sight Source Localization Technology

  • Professor Chi Nan (Fudan University): Intelligent New-Spectrum Optical Communication Technologies for 6G

During the achievement showcase segment, Professor Zhang Zaichen released the team’s latest research findings.


The symposium featured 8 parallel sessions with invited talks. A total of 32 invited presentations from academia and industry covered frontier directions including optical wireless communications, optical wireless sensing, integrated optical communication-sensing devices, multi-spectrum convergence, integrated optical communication and sensing, and industrial applications, enabling in-depth exchanges and brainstorming among cross-disciplinary specialists.



Closely aligned with cutting-edge technological trends and industrial development of optical wireless communications, this symposium featured rich themes and in-depth discussions. Its successful convening has built a high-level platform for academic exchange and collaboration for researchers in related fields, and created a vital channel to advance deep integration between theoretical innovation and industrial implementation. Catering to the demands of information technology development in the 6G era, the event injects new momentum into technological innovation and high-quality development of optical wireless communications in China and globally.
